Rules & Quotes

[USEFUL] {1} This result furthers the basic purpose of the patent system. The exclusive right, constitutionally derived, was for the national purpose of advancing the useful arts — the process today called technological innovation. As implemented by the patent statute, the grant of the right to exclude carries the obligation to disclose the workings of the invention, thereby adding to the store of knowledge without diminishing the patent-supported incentive to innovate.

[USEFUL] {2} The reason for the patent system is to encourage innovation and its fruits: new jobs and new industries, new consumer goods and trade benefits.
